During a recent ride on the Alpe Adria cycle path, near the village of Belvedere I noticed a new cycle path, completed but still cordoned off.

The cycle path, signed as the “Mar e Tiaris” project (which in the Friulian language means “Sea and Land”), continues for just over a kilometre until reaching the entrance to the Belvedere campsite.

This facility is very useful for both cycle tourists and camping guests: in the summer the road that connects the tourist facility to the village of Belvedere and therefore to the main road is very busy.

Some sections are extremely panoramic as the track runs alongside the Grado lagoon. Then you can continue cycling using local asphalted and little-trafficked roads that wind through the countryside continuing towards the village of Boscat.

It seems that the cycle path was created as part of the “Mar e Tiaris” project https://www.maretiaris.com/) which includes the creation of some cycle-tourist routes to discover the territories of the Lower Friulian Plain.

The project is still under construction but in the meantime some signs have been placed indicating the direction of the route (unfortunately at the moment this signage is practically absent at the intersections) and some totems describing the territories crossed and the project itself.

From the few indications I found between Belvedere, Fiumicello and Aquileia, I should have cycled on itineraries 1 and 3 “From the sea to the land” and “Agro Archeologico”. Unfortunately, even the project website is currently not very useful as the pages relating to these routes have not yet been put online.

We will do our best to keep you updated on the progress of this project.
